Ex lawmaker distributes Rs 2.85m to quake victims

DOLAKHA, Jan 21: As many as 179 families who had lost their beloved ones to the devastating 7.8 earthquake and its subsequent aftershocks in Dolakha district has been provided Rs 15,000 each by a former lawmaker.

Nepali Congress (NC) leader and former lawmaker Jeep Tsering Lama, who was elected from Dolakha constituency number 1, handed over Rs 2.85 million altogether to the bereaved families in a program organized by NC District Committee at the district headquarters Charikot on Wednesday.


According to Tara Bahadur Koirala, NC district-level president, Lama also handed an ambulance to Khare VDC purchased with his personal expenses. The ambulance was handed over to Chitra Kumar Shrestha (Gautam), chief of Khare Model Tourism Cooperative Organization, jointly by Chief District Officer Devendra Lamichhane and Local Development Officer Sita Pariyar.

“The quake has badly hit the whole district. I'm happy to help them from my personal expenses, even though it's little,” said Lama. According to the District Disaster Relief Committee (DDRC), Lama had previously distributed over 3,500 tarpaulins and food items worth Rs 4 million immediately after the earthquake.
