On the invitation of Hibitat for Humanity -- an INGO that aims to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness -- began the Everest Build II campaign in Panchkhal on Sunday. Volunteers from across the globe will help construct forty houses for the poor families in Panchkhal within a week.[break]
“Volunteers will work alongside habitat home partners to construct houses with sun-dried bricks, treated bamboo and corrugated metal sheets,” said Aruna Paul Simittrarachchi, country representative, Habitat for Humanity International Nepal. Each house measuring 40 sq m (430 sq. ft.) in size will be constructed and every house will have two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen and an attached toilet.
The Everest Build I was organized in Pokhara in 2010. “Foreign volunteers will spend a few weeks travelling in Nepal and this will help promote Nepal´s tourism destinations globally,” Paul added.
Everest Build II will also be a celebration of the 15,000 families already supported by Habitat for Humanity Nepal in the last ten years, and be a major marker in their target of assisting 100,000 families by 2016.
