KATHMANDU, Nov 12: Political parties participating in the upcoming National Assembly election must register for the polls between November 17 to 26, according to the Election Commission.
As per the election schedule, approval of party registration and the distribution of election symbols will take place on November 30. The approved election program will be published in the Nepal Gazette on December 2.
The voter list (electoral college) will be finalized by December 20, and polling centers will also be determined on the same day.
The office of the election officer will be established on December 31. The election process will run from January 4 to 12, while campaigning will be allowed from January 12 to 22 .
Election symbols to be allocated to NA candidates on Monday
Voting will be held on January 25 from 9 AM to 3 PM, with counting to begin the same day.
Members of provincial assemblies, along with mayors, deputy mayors, rural municipality chairpersons, and vice-chairpersons, will serve as voters in the election. The vote weight for provincial assembly members is 53, while that for local representatives is 19.
The total vote weight by province is as follows: Koshi (10,135), Madhesh (10,839), Bagmati (10,352), Gandaki (6,410), Lumbini (8,753), Karnali (5,122), and Sudurpaschim (6,153).
Out of 19 vacant National Assembly seats, elections will be held for 18, while the government will nominate one member to replace Bamdev Gautam.
While three members will be elected from Koshi Province, four members will be elected from Madhesh province. Similarly, two each from Bagmati and Gandaki, three from Lumbini and two each from Karnali and Sudurpaschim will also be elected as members of the National Assembly.
These elections are being held to fill the seats of members whose terms, elected in March 2020 (Falgun 2076), are expiring.
