Dr Koirala has replaced Dr KP Singh, whose tenure ended recently. Dr Koirala who served for eight years as the director of Sahid Gangalal National Heart Center is credited with improving the hospital´s management. During his tenure, the hospital has developed into an international standard cardiac center.
"This is a great challenge. I will try my best to rid the hospital of all anomalies and strengthen its image," Dr Koirala told to Republica. He said he expects better coordination from the hospital staffers. "I need coordination from all to strengthen this institution," he added.
The hospital has been suffering huge losses. This is attributed to overstaffing and political interference. The hospital provides 90 percent waiver on all services, including medicines, to its employees and their families.
The hospital also gives 50 percent discount on all services, including medicine, to all TU staffers across the country.
