Keeping that in mind, District Development Committee (DDC) of Parbat has started replacing old wooden electronic poles with iron poles. “Wooden poles decay fast and do not last for more than a few years. Hence, we decided to replace them with iron poles,” informed Local Development Officer Shiva Prashad Rijal.
“It is not possible to replace all the 14,500 poles all at once. For now, we will replace the ones that are about to collapse. So far, we have already replaced 1,200 poles in Kushma Municipality and 47 VDCs,” he added. At present, there are 4,314 poles in the district.
NEA starts removing internet cables from utility poles
Huwas VDC of the district has the highest number of poles. Among the 818 poles in Huwas, 68 have been replaced till now.
According to Mitra Lal Basyal, chairman of Parbat chapter of National Association of Community Electricity Users, there is an urgent need to replace 7,200 electricity poles. “If those poles are not replaced on time, it may lead to the loss of lives and properties,” he warned.
