“All the political parties should move ahead in unison for the sake of constitution-writing and the peace process,” presidential press advisor Rajendra Dahal quoted the president as telling the Maoist chairman, who was accompanied by party vice-chairman Narayankaji Shrestha.
According to Shrestha, the primary objective of the visit was to learn of the president´s views on the current political situation. “The main thing is agreement among you (political parties). But what I want as far as possible is not to drag this institution into controversy,” Shrestha quoted the president as saying.
The president told the Maoist leaders that he would be positive towards what the political parties agree to for ending the deadlock. He said the Maoists should play a pivotal role in constitution-writing and the peace process. "We said we are committed to the peace process and constitution-writing and would not deviate at any cost," Shrestha said.
“We are not against you personally, but are forced to launch agitations. So we will take initiatives to resolve it immediately and come to you with what we (political parties) agree,” the Maoist leaders told the president. They also said the parties would visit him with what they agree to for ending deadlock.
The Maoists have said they would continue protesting until the president´s “extra-constitutional” move is rectified. “We will continue our struggle for civilian supremacy until the president´s move is rectified,” said Shrestha.
