RAUTAHAT, Dec 23: With situation in Gaur getting back to normalcy, the district administration office (DAO) Rautahat has lifted the curfew order in the district headquarters from Wednesday evening.
The DAO had imposed curfew order in Gaur for the last four days following the death of a school boy in police firing during demonstration. The district had remained tense with the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF)'s new decision to intensify protest citing the forcible tabling of the constitution amendment bill.
The curfew that remained for the last four days had crippled day-to-day activities in Gaur.
The family of the deceased school boy, Tabrej Alam, performed the last rites at a local cemetery at Tejapaked VDC as per Islamic rituals after receiving his body from Gaur hospital on Tuesday.
UDMF leaders from the central to local level attended the funeral of Alam. One of the leaders Jitendra Sonal, who is also the general secretary of Tarai-Madhes Democratic Party, blamed the government of killing people to suppress the movement launched for the rights of the Madhesis.
“The sacrifice of brave Madhesis will not go in vain,” Sonal expressed his commitment, while paying tribute to the deceased Alam.
Following an agreement with the Rautahat DAO, the deceased family received the body. As per a four-point written agreement with the family and local leaders, the DAO agreed to declare the deceased a martyr, provide due compensation for the bereaved family and government employment to one of the family members, and also action against guilty policemen.
