Criminal cases that are sub-judice cannot be annulled: SC

KATHMANDU, Jan 14: The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday issued a verdict that grave criminal cases that are sub-judice cannot be annulled at the recommendation of the political parties.

With this verdict, no parties can withdraw their cadres' cases that are sub judice under any pretext.

A constitution bench headed by Chief Justice Kalyan Shrestha today ruled that any attempts to withdraw criminal cases by violating acts related to government cases, court's precedents, and other state policies will be deemed illegal.

The constitutional bench comprising justices Sushil Karki, Baidhyanath Upadhyaya, Gopal Parajuli and Om Prakash Mishra under the chairmanship of Chief Justice Kalyan Shrestha issued the mandamus ordering the parties not to give clemency to the culprits under any pretexts.
