Make simple and smart choices to help prevent food wastage and save your money and our environment.[break]
• Start by planning your grocery list. Check what you need before you head to the market. Make a list.
• Stick to the list. Buy only what you need.
• Don’t buy more than what you can actually eat.
• Sort out your kitchen and keep things tidy. That way you can see what requires to be used and when.
• Keep regular tabs on your food and cook something before it spoils. An example, eat that spinach before you have to throw it away.
• Don’t make too much of something if you have no immediate use for it.
• Instead of just tossing away excess food, check if it’s still edible then give it to someone. Meals can always be cooked out of leftovers. Saves time and money.
• You can also feed still edibles but unwanted food to your pet.
• If your veggies are bruised here and there, cut off the sides and make use of them.
• Cut your grocery shopping into frequent occasions over the week so that you end up buying only a few but important essentials.
• If you do need to throw away something, then set up a bin for your vegetables. Use that as compost for your kitchen garden or pots.
