KATHMANDU, March 10: District Police Office (DPO), Mahottari on Thursday filed cases against 28 persons including Sadbhawana Party's joint general secretary Devendra Yadav for their involvement in the murder of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Thaman Bahadur BK in the district during the recent Madhes protest.

As per the cases filed by the DPO at the District Court of Mahottari, 28 persons have been charged with murder of the Armed Police Force ASI while 25 others have also been charged on the case of vandalizing ambulance.

Most of the accused are frontline leaders of Madhes-based political parties from the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF). Joint general secretary Yadav of Sadbhawana Party, Mohan Thakur, Shankar Kumar Mishra, Laxmi Mahato and Abhiram Sharma of Tarai-Madhes Democratic Party, Kaushal Kumar Yadav of Federal Socialist Forum Nepal and Suresh Pandey of Tarai-Madhes Sadbhawana Party are among the accused.

Of the accused, three persons - Pradeep Kumar Sah, Pramod Gami and Mohan Thakur-have already been arrested. They are now at the detention center in Mahottari.

Due to the fear of their arrest, most of the accused district-level leaders have been absconding.

Just before the promulgation of the new constitution last September, locals and UDMF cadres had mercilessly beat up APF ASI BK at Jaleshwar of Mahottari. The protestors subsequently killed the injured BK while he was being taken to Janakpur in an ambulance. They had also torched the ambulance.
