KATHMANDU, March 5: Following the Gen-Z movement on September 8 and the violent incidents on September 9, a government was formed on September 12 under the leadership of Sushila Karki.
The government’s first mandate was to hold elections by March 5. Accordingly, today, the House of Representatives election is being conducted across the country under the management of the Election Commission. As voting proceeds peacefully nationwide, Gen-Z activists involved in the earlier movement have expressed their happiness.

Gen-Z activist Bhawana Raut said that Prime Minister Karki’s determination has put the country’s democracy back on track. She added that leaders who previously opposed holding elections ultimately had to participate, and the Prime Minister’s perseverance saved democracy. She also reiterated the demand for justice for the martyrs of the movement and proper management of the injured.
Similarly, Gen-Z Front coordinator Raksha Bam thanked the President and Prime Minister for upholding constitutional integrity during the crisis. She said she personally felt that democracy had been safeguarded during the movement. She highlighted that those who raised questions in the streets yesterday for good governance are today voting for change, emphasizing the younger generation’s dedication to democracy.
Another activist, Tanuja Pandey, described today’s voting as not just a vote to protect democracy but also as a conscious voice against impunity, divisive politics, and fascist tendencies. She added that her generation has stood in the streets to put democracy into practice and that today’s voting is a continuation of that struggle.
