KATHMANDU, June 16: Avenues TV staffers called off their protest following a five-point agreement with the management. The agreement was signed by Chairman of the Federation of Nepali journalists Mahendra Bista, Avenues TV Chairman Bhaskar Raj Karnikar and Bishnu Bahadur Basnet representing the agitating staffers.

As per the agreement, the management has agreed to pay regular salary and clear all dues of the staffers within three days. The journalists had staged an hour long sit-in at the office premises of Avenues TV and Himalaya TV.
The fifth plenum of FNJ had decided to intensify protest against media houses that were not paying salaries to working journalists citing various reasons. The meeting has also urged stakeholders to review the existing minimum monthly salary of journalists and increase it to Rs 20,000 on the basis of inflation.The meeting has vowed to press the authorities to implement the Working Journalist Act.
