BANKE, March 8: A total of 141 foreign women have acquired naturalized Nepali citizenship in the district following the promulgation of the new constitution.
According to data provided by the District Administration Office (DAO), the naturalized citizenships were issued after the promulgation of the new constitution on September 20.

As per the Sub Article 6 of the Article 10 of the constitution, women of foreign nationals with marital relations with Nepali citizens can acquire naturalized Nepali citizenship in accordance with the federal law.
Sub Article 7 of the same Article states that a child of a Nepali woman married to foreign national can also acquire naturalized Nepali citizen with condition the woman in question on behalf of the child has permanent residence in Nepal and does not hold a foreign citizenship.
The women of foreign nationality acquiring the naturalized citizenship who have married to Nepali husbands are Indians. The widespread delusion hanging over the new constitution has also dissipated after Indian women married to Nepali husbands have started acquiring naturalized citizenship.
"There had been a rumour spread intentionally that foreign women married to Nepali would not get citizenship, this is wrong," Apsanna Behna of Nepalgunj said. RSS
