This is the fourth title for APF which remained unbeaten in the tournament winning all 17 matches it played. New Diamond Academy was the last victim of the departmental team this year. APF collected 51 points from 17 matches. New Diamond finished runner-up collecting 44 points from 17 matches.
On Wednesday, APF beat New Diamond 16-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-10 to claim the title and bag Rs 260,000 while runner-up New Diamond received Rs 130,000.
New Diamond coach Kumar Rai said that he was happy with the way his team played in the second leg. “We played according to our potential and I am happy with the performance. APF is filled with national players and a team needs to be at its best in all positions to beat the departmental team.
However, our players are just school students,” he said.
Similarly, Western Region beat Nepal Police Club by 25-15, 25-21, 25-23 to finish third and bag Rs 70,000. Police stood fourth and received Rs 40,000.
Kamala Pun of Nepal Police Club was adjudged the best player of the tournament and got a scooter. This is the first occasion that Kamala, libero of Police Club, won the best player award in the tournament.
“I am delighted with the achievement. This is the best tournament in the country,” said Kamala, who started playing for Myagdi four years ago and played for Angel's Heart from the fourth edition.
“All clubs want to claim the title. I am happy for being the best player although my club did not claim the title,” said Kamala, who joined Police Club two years back. “I am also grateful to the host as it has been providing platform to players,” she added. Kamala made her debut in the national team two years ago.
Similarly, Nebika Chaudhary of APF got player-of-the-year award, while Manju Gurung of Western won player-of-the-series award. Likewise, Lalita Nath of New Diamond got most promising player of the tournament award. They all received a scooter each.
Similarly, New Diamond's Pratibha Mali got the best spiker award and Kripa Adhikari got the best setter award and Lalita received best quicker award. Saraswati Chaudhary of APF was adjudged the best blocker, Police Club's Shanti Lama received the best defender award and Kopila Upreti was declared the best server, while APF coach Sudish Kumar Rimal got the best coach award. The all receive Rs 5,000 along with trophies.
APF climbs on top of Dhorpatan volleyball
