Airlift essentials, NRB suggests govt

KATHMANDU, Nov 21: Concluding that public life has been hit hard owing to the blockade by India, the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has suggested the government to airlift diesel, kerosene and medicines among other essentials.

In a report ‘Impact of India’s unofficial blockade on Nepal’s economy’ made public by Research Department of the central bank on Friday, NRB has recommended the government immediately solve the Tarai issue through talks to create environment for operation of banks and financial institutions, schools and industries in the region.

In its 15-point immediate, midterm and long term recommendations, NRB has stressed on justifiable distribution of available goods at the time when there is scarcity of fuel, food and medicines.

The central bank is of the opinion that unjustifiable distribution has lead to unnatural inflation and black marketing.

NRB has further suggested for use of energy-efficient electrical cooker and equipment, vehicles, solar and wind energy and biogas.
