POKHARA, Oct 11: Nepalese and foreigners traveling by air in the near future may have to produce their identity card along with other personal details while buying air tickets as few airline companies in Pokhara have already enacted the new ticketing procedure.

Airlines had internally decided to cooperate with the new ticketing formalities after they encountered number of passengers taking flights with the tickets registered in some other´s name. [break]

According to the new rule, the ticket buyer must register their nationality, identity card number and passport number if the person is a foreigner, and driving license number or citizenship number if the person is a Nepalese.

According to Gautam Baral, Pokhara Station Manager of Buddha Air, they had to encounter many problems when tickets sold were registered just under the person´s identity card.

“Before we allowed the passengers to go on broad after inspecting their identity card and the name registered on the ticket but that didn´t stop unregistered persons from taking the flight. I believe this additional information will help us avoid such irregularities,” said Gautam.

Buddha Airlines has forwarded the new enactment in all of its branches since October 7.

Gautam informed that until now even the nationality of the foreigners was not included in their tickets. “They were just registered as foreigner in the tickets but from now on their nationality will also be printed in their tickets,” said Gautam. “Besides just knowing about which country they are from will help a lot while identifying their real identity in case of air crash,” added Gautam.

Another airline branch stationed in Pokhara who agreed to follow the new rule of registration shared similar views on the issue. “In times of air crash this additional details on the tickets will be very helpful. It´s just that all the airlines should apply this new rule very strictly for its proper implementation,” said the Manager of the airline. “We have already started the new procedure in all off our branches,” he added.

According to Chief of Pokhara Airport Pratap Babu Tiwari, this newly endorsed procedure will certainly help passengers in the long run. “If this new registration system was implemented before, officers wouldn´t have to take so long to recover the identities of the people who die in the air crashes,” said Pratap.

He further informed that they have also strengthened their inspections on the luggage weights.
