The agitating CA members have accused the major political parties of not showing readiness to address the concerns of small political parties, dalits and marginalized communities in the new constitution.
“We discussed ways to remove the deadlock in the Constitutional Committee,” NC Vice President Ram Chandra Paudel told media persons after the meeting.
Work at the Constitutional Committee (CC) of the CA has been halted for a couple of weeks because of obstruction created by the four CA members from small political parties. Due to the obstruction, the CC has not not been able to extend the term of a sub-committee formed earlier to settle disputes in constitution writing.
One of the agitating CA members Manandhar said they have taken the invitation of the major parties for negotiation positively. “We will withdraw our protests if they express their commitment to address our demands. Our protests would continue if our demands are not addressed,” he said.
Speaker Nembang, Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal, CC Chairman Nilambar Acharya, Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, UML senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, NC Vice President Paudel, among others, were present at the meeting.
Talking to Republica, UML leader Surendra Pandey said there are many issues which need to be addressed by Constituent Assembly (CA). “We will hold discussions as to how can we take the issues in the constitutional process during Monday meeting,” he said.
