A total of 5,500 security personnel, 3,500 from Nepal Police and 2,000 from Armed Police Force, including plainclothesmen, will be deployed in the Pashupati area, according to SSP Rana Bahadur Chand, chief of Metropolitan Police Range Office, Kathmandu.[break]
The security forces will be supported by some 1200 volunteers to manage the crowd. Forty-five CCTV cameras have been installed at different places in and around the temple.
As per the plans, the police will provide four-tier security covering the entrance, crowd management, surveillance and exit points, he said.
The police will be present at every nook and corners of the area to help the devotees in case of any emergency related to missing, robbery, pick-pocketing, snatching or any kind of harassment.
A supervision team under District Security Committee will keep vigil in the area the whole day and take complaints from the visitors and help solve their problems, according to PADT.
“We have prohibited trade in drugs, alcohol and meat items during,” he said, adding, “Someone who is found with prohibited items would be punished.”
Police Inspector Pawan Kumar Bhattarai, with Metropolitan Police Sector Office, Gaushala, said, “We have already arrested about 50 people on Saturday on the charge of possessing and abusing marijuana. We have also arrested some pickpockets.”
The command post will monitor the CCTV footage and manage security measures accordingly, SSP Chand said. So we are convinced that there won´t be any untoward incident in the area, he added.
