This was announced at a press conference at the UN House in Pulchowk, Lalitpur, on June 29.[break]
Speaking at the program, Robert Piper, UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nepal, hoped that this 11-month training would further better the chances of the trainees in the wider market.
“It was a great collaboration with the first cohort, and now we hope for the same from the second batch,” said Piper while wishing the group of trainees his best during their tenure with the UN.
Upama Malla, Uma Devi Karki, Giri Panthi, Bijay Thapa, Ganga Ram Choudhary, Govinda Adhikari, Prem Kumari Rai, Asim Shrestha, Anu Paudyal, Paula Bulancea, Ashok Vaidhya, Thakur Nath Dhakal, Binod Lamsal, Nilamma Rai, Moon Gurung, Leela Sthapit, Arjun Giri, Deepak KC, Naresh Giri, Shubash Nepali, Upesh Shakya, and Narayan Raj Maharjan will join different agencies of the UN in different departments with fulltime training assignments which will provide the candidates the opportunity to improve their professional skills and competence.
Expressing her gratitude to the UN and giving tips to the new trainees, Thinle Sherpa of the first batch said, “Your mentors get really busy because they are taking extra time out for you and you need to help them too. We learn something from them and they learn something from us. It goes both ways.”
The UN Agencies in Nepal launched this program to give a chance to recent university graduates from socially excluded groups to get professional experience in an international working environment.
Deputy Country Director (Operations) of UNDP, Rahama Mohammed, thanked the UN agencies’ heads present at the program for taking the trainees in and wished them all the luck for the learning they are going to receive.
