2,253 workers return home after quake

KATHMANDU, June 4: As many as 2,253 migrant workers who had gone abroad for employment have returned home after the earthquake so far.

The Ministry of Labor and Employment has stated that 107 migrant workers, whose relatives were killed in the quake, returned home so far while the number might be more as most of the workers have returned home without providing information to the respective embassies.


However, in today's meeting of the International Relations and Labor Committee under the Legislature-Parliament, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Labor and Employment submitted different statistics regarding the returnee migrant workers.

The Foreign Ministry submitted the report stating that 1,172 workers returned home while the Labor Ministry submitted report states that 2,253 workers returned home after the April 25 devastating earthquake.

Prior to this, the government has managed free air tickets to the quake affected workers for returning home and going abroad. RSS
