The team has warned of the possibility of similar or even more disastrous flood in the coming days.[break]
According to Professor Khagendra Poudel, a team member, excess snowfall this season led to formation of heavy snowpacks higher up along the river´s course.
"There was snowfall throughout the season. Unable to bear the pressure, the land gave way and the water flowed along with the mud from high altitude causing the flood," he said.
According to him, the part of the land or the course taken by the river is still very fragile and there is a risk of another flashflood. "There is high risk of similar or even more powerful flood coming again. There is high accumulation of snow and it will find a way out," he said.
According to Dambar Raj Adhikari, one of the team members and joint secretary of Trekking agencies association of Nepal (TAAN), the glacial waters carrying mud fell down from the height of 4500 meter. "Due to the pressure, it took a form of flood," he said.
Adhikari also warned of the possibility of another flashflood in the river. "As there is still thick snow and that will ultimately need an outlet which might cause another flood in the river," he said.
