Seven women rescued from Jogbani

PATHARI (Morang), March 14: The Morang Police has rescued seven trafficked Nepali women from Jogbani Railway Station, the Nepal-India border line in Morang district. It is said that the women were being trafficked to the gulf nations via New Delhi of India in the name of foreign employment.

Police Inspector Ganga Poudel said that the rescued women aged 21 to 37 are originally from Chitwan, Sankhuwasabha, Udayapur and Sunsari districts.



Police said that they were rescued at 12:00 last midnight from the railway station in India based on a tip off when the women were being trafficked to gulf nations from the Indian capital New Delhi.

Meanwhile, the police has arrested Dhanapati Regmi, 48, of Madhumalla -7 in the district 12 years after he was charged of murdering Pabitra Kattel of the same location. Deputy Superintendent of Police Kamal Thapa said that a case was filed against Regmi for his alleged involvement in the killing of Kattel on January 8, 2004.

Regmi, who joined the people's war after the murder charge, is a returnee migrant worker. Regmi is brought to Biratnagar after his arrest from the police. The District Court, Morang, had sentenced 20 years in prison to Regmi. RSS
