One killed in clash in Nawalparasi

Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta West), Feb 26: A clash between two groups in Belaspur, Palhinandan Rural Municipality-3, West Nawalparasi, resulted in the death of one person. The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old Bijay Dhawal of Kushma, Palhinandan-3, according to police.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Gyanendra Phuyal of the Nawalparasi District Police Office stated that Dhawal succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday evening while undergoing treatment at City Hospital in Bhairahawa, Rupandehi.

Two other injured individuals, Moharram Pawariya and 45-year-old Baijnath Prasad Loniya, are receiving treatment at the same hospital. Pawariya is in critical condition and is being treated in the intensive care unit, while Loniya sustained injuries to both legs and is in stable condition, SP Phuyal said.

The clash erupted around 10 am on Tuesday following a minor dispute, leaving 19 people injured. During the confrontation, protesters set fire to a police vehicle (registration number Ba 1 Jha 7448) belonging to the Maheshpur Area Police Office.

Among the injured are 11 Nepal Police personnel, four- Armed Police Force officers, and four local residents. To bring the situation under control, the police fired five rounds of tear gas and three warning shots into the air. The district police office has now enforced heightened security in the affected area.
