The five of the dead have been identified as one-year-old Hemnta Bista, of Kabhra-6, Salyan, Shabnam Ansari, 36, of Tripura-1, driver Dhan Bahadur Thapa, 36, of Manpur-7, Kimini Khadaka of Ranigaun and Bishnu Bista. The police have yet to determine the identities of the two others who lost their life in the accident, according to police.All the critically injured are being treated at Kohalpur Medical College. Twenty-two people who sustained minor injuries are currently undergoing treatment at Banke Hospital.
According to eyewitness, the van, which was en route to Gorahi from Tulshipur, was overcrowded and over-speeding when it collided with the school bus.
Similarly, two people died and one sustained severe injuries when a tractor met with an accident at Chhatishkot-5 of Narayan Municipality of Dailekh district on the same day.
The deceased were identified as Indra Bahadur Thapa, 56, and Jyoti Rana Magar, 36, both residents of Toli-3, according to the police. Thapa died on the spot while Magar died on the way to hospital.
Laxmi Koirala, 50, of Narayan Municipality was seriously injured in the Dailekh crash. Although she was taken to Dailekh District Hospital at first, she was later referred to Kohalpur Medical College for further treatment. The ill-fated tractor was heading to Toli VDC of the district from Dailekh bazaar.
