KATHMANDU, April 6: National Human Rights Commission has urged the government to send a team of health workers including expert doctors to Jajarkot to control the diarrhea epidemic in Dasera VDC and other adjoining villages of the district.

Issuing a press release on Wednesday, the NHRC has expressed its serious concerns over the situation in the district. "More than 40 individuals are reported to be suffering from diarrhea in a single village of Dasera and among them majority are students and SLC examinees. The commission urges the government to send a team of health workers in the district to control the epidemic and to pay special attention to SLC examinees," stated the commission.NHRC has recalled past cases of the swine flu epidemic that killed dozens and a diarrhea outbreak that claimed hundreds of lives six years ago in Jajarkot, and urged the government to make medical treatment easily available. The commission has also asked the government to make sufficient supply of medicines to the district.
