With NPL matches pulling thousands of fans toward the TU Cricket Ground, inDrive is steering its driver community toward new earning opportunities through targeted bonuses and real-time demand tools. Sunita Jeemi Rai, Senior Driver Operations Specialist at inDrive Nepal, shares with Republica how the company is helping drivers navigate the busiest match-day zones while ensuring safety, flexibility and fair pricing.

inDrive has become a ride-hailing partner of the Nepal Premier League (NPL). How will this partnership benefit drivers?

Our partnership with NPL is a significant collaboration for us. It increases earning opportunities for drivers by directing them toward areas with the highest demand. At the moment, the 3-kilometer radius around the NPL venue is the busiest zone in Kathmandu. We encourage drivers to move toward these hotspots and offer them in-app bonuses, such as reduced service fees.In addition, drivers can benefit from partner bonuses available within the app. We have also introduced the Platinum Driver Giveaway program, where drivers can win exciting prizes. The grand prizes include a Tata Xpres-T EV for car drivers and a TVS Raider motorcycle for motorbike riders. There are also numerous weekly prizes, such as accessories and fuel vouchers for 1,500 drivers.

How is inDrive supporting drivers operationally during the tournament?

We provide drivers with a real-time demand map in the app, which shows them where most orders are coming from. To ensure they can use this tool effectively, we have offered in-house training that helps them understand demand patterns and navigate busy zones. They also receive daily notifications about high-demand areas. Additionally, our “freedom of choice” feature allows drivers to select their preferred destination, enabling them to increase their earnings during peak periods.

Are there special incentives or bonuses during NPL?

Yes, we are running weekly performance-based incentives. Each driver receives a trip target, and once they complete the required number of rides, they earn bonus points in their wallet. These points can be used to pay service fees, eliminating the need to top up their digital wallet separately.

How does fare negotiation help drivers during large events like NPL?

Fare negotiation is one of our most popular features. Drivers can set fares based on distance, traffic, and the time required to reach or drop off passengers. During NPL, this feature has helped many drivers increase their earnings significantly, especially when they choose NPL as their destination or operate around the venue.

Safety is often a concern during major events. What safety measures are available for drivers?

We provide a 24/7 emergency button in the app, enabling drivers to reach our support team instantly in case of any incident. Our team responds immediately to ensure the driver’s safety and takes appropriate actions. There is a shield icon and drivers can reach inDrive’s 24/7 support team for immediate assistance. This feature also allows drivers to directly contact local emergency services, such as the police or an ambulance, ensuring swift response in urgent situations. The app also monitors rides for irregularities. If a vehicle stops unexpectedly or fails to progress along the route, the app prompts the driver to confirm their safety.

How does this partnership support drivers beyond financial benefits?

This collaboration also introduces drivers to Nepal’s sports culture. Many drivers spend long hours on the road and experience high levels of stress. Being part of events like NPL or marathons brings them closer to the excitement of sports and gives them unique experiences.

For example, we recently invited several drivers and their families to enjoy VIP viewing experiences at the TU Cricket Ground. Many drivers said this was their first time experiencing sports in such a premium setting, and it sparked a new appreciation for Nepali sports.

Are drivers required to do anything differently during NPL?

Not much changes operationally. We simply encourage them to check the demand map more frequently and focus on driving toward the NPL venue, where demand is highest.

How does inDrive communicate important updates during the tournament?

We use several channels to keep drivers informed. Our social media pages provide daily updates about NPL. We also have dedicated WhatsApp groups for drivers, where we share match schedules, earning tips, and important reminders. Along with that, drivers receive in-app notifications and banners every day. Through these platforms, we ensure they have all the information they need to make the most of the tournament.

How does this partnership reflect inDrive’s long-term commitment to the driver community?

This partnership is part of a broader commitment to support drivers and their families. We want them to participate in activities beyond driving, particularly in sports and community events. During past events like the Kathmandu Marathon, we involved drivers and even their children, giving their families access to sports experiences they may not otherwise have had.

We also ensure that when drivers win large prizes, such as cars, they do not face financial burdens. For example, we cover the entire windfall tax on vehicles. This allows drivers to fully enjoy their prizes without worrying about significant additional costs. As far as we know, inDrive is the only company doing this in Nepal.

If drivers face challenges during match days—such as traffic disruptions or unforeseen incidents—how can they seek help?

Driver safety is our first priority. If any mishap occurs, we advise drivers to first get themselves to a safe location. After that, they can contact our support team directly through the 24/7 emergency button in the app. Our team responds quickly and guides them through whatever steps are necessary, depending on the situation.

Is there anything else you would like to share?

I would encourage everyone to choose inDrive. With our platform, you can select your ride, choose your destination, and offer a fair price—all from a single app. I also want to highlight that every ride is insured. In case of accidental death or disability, the insurance coverage is up to NPR 800,000, and up to NPR 80,000 for medical expenses. Claims can be filed very easily through the app’s support chat, without visiting any office. Finally, our Platinum Driver Giveaway has begun. Drivers now have the chance to win a Tata Express-T EV, a TVS Raider motorcycle, and weekly prizes including smartphones, earbuds, smartwatches, and 1500 fuel vouchers over the next three weeks.
