KATHMANDU, Oct 10: The motion to elect Nepali Congress’ (NC) parliamentary party leader Ram Chandra Paudel as next prime minister failed to garner necessary majority votes in the 12th round of election procedure in parliament on Sunday.

Among 119 present lawmakers, 89 voted for the motion while one vote was cast against the motion. Twenty-nine lawmakers chose to remain neutral.[break]

After the parliament session, Paudel when asked about the continuation of meaningless electoral procedure said that it was held to fulfill Maoist desire.

The next round of the prime ministerial election is scheduled for October 26.
