16th round PM election also futile

KATHMANDU, Nov 4: The 16th round of voting in parliament also failed to elect a new prime minister Thursday with the lone candidate in the race Nepali Congress (NC) leader Ram Chandra Paudel failing to garner a simple majority.



Of the 101 lawmakers present, 82 voted in favor of Poudel and two voted against him. Similarly, 17 lawmakers chose to remain neutral. [break]



The 17th round of voting has been scheduled for November 15. As usual, UCPN (Maoist), CPN-UML and Madhesi People´s Rights Forum (MPRF) lawmakers abstained from voting.
