KATHMANDU, March 24: Nepali Congress (NC) President Gagan Thapa has congratulated the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) for securing a majority in the House of Representatives, while pledging the party’s full support to the incoming government.

Speaking at a central committee meeting on Tuesday, Thapa publicly extended his congratulations to the RSP for the first time since the election. “I would like to congratulate the RSP and its leadership for achieving a comfortable majority,” he said.

Thapa had earlier refrained from commenting on the election results after losing from Sarlahi-4 to RSP’s Amresh Kumar Singh by a margin of 13,000 votes. He had also tendered his resignation, taking moral responsibility for the defeat, but the party’s central committee rejected it.

Following the rejection of his resignation, Thapa convened the central committee meeting, where he reaffirmed NC’s commitment to supporting the RSP-led government.

He said the new government should accelerate development, good governance, and service delivery. “The Nepali Congress will fully support these efforts. If progress slows, we will apply pressure, and if challenges arise, we will offer encouragement,” he said.
