SIRAHA, Sept 23: The District Election Office, Siraha has started voter education campaign with the aim of educating the voters to cast valid votes.

In the previous Constituent Assembly (CA) elections, 7.06 percent of the total votes under the First past the post (FPTP) and seven percent of the total votes under the proportional representation (PR) system had been declare invalid.[break]

According to the election office, of the total 282,319 votes cast in all the six constituencies of the district in the last CA, 19,953 votes were invalid. This, the office says, was due to low awareness among the public.

“We have started voter education campaign with the aim of bringing down the number of invalid votes,” said Chief Election Officer in the district Krishna Hari Neupane.

According to Neupane, election office has deployed 216 volunteers to educate the voters in the villages. There are 21,981 voters in the district.

“CA election holds special importance than other periodic elections. So, we do not want the voters to cast invalid votes,” said he adding that the campaign would gain further momentum after the distribution of the voter identity cards.
