UML candidate Alam shot at in Bara

KATHMANDU, Oct 4: An unidentified gang of assailants shot at CPN-UML FPTP candidate Mohammad Alam in Bara district on Friday.

Leader Alam was shot at Chainpur Chowk of Bara district along the Pathlaiya-Birgunj road while he was talking on phone, an official at Bara District Police Office told Republica over telephone.[break]

According to Chief District Officer of Bara District Kailash Bajimaya, three motorcycle-borne assailants opened fire at him at around 11 am today.

He is said to have sustained bullet injuries on his head.

Alam, who was serioulsy injured in the incident, had been taken to Birgunj-based National Medical College.

The condition of Alam is said to be critical.



Injured Alam has been airlifted to Kathmandu from Birgunj by a Nepal Army helicopter for further treatment, informed our Bara-based correspondent Upendra Yadav. He is undergoing treatment at TU Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj.

Alam has filed nomination from constituency-4 in Bara district representing UML. He is a UML central committee member as well as chairman of Muslim Ittehad Organization.

Alam is considered a probable candidate to win the elections to the Constituent Assembly  from his constituency.
