The awards were launched this year with the purpose of helping students who plan on studying abroad. Applicants went through a competitive application process as they wrote essays, gave a presentation in front of the judges, and sat for interviews.Omkar will be pursuing an MSc degree in Advanced Computer Science at the University of Hertfordshire in the UK. He spoke about the selection process motivating him. "It is a huge honor to be one of the first winners from Nepal. This award has not only lessened my financial burden but has motivated me even more to excel in my studies. I am very thankful to the British Council for giving me this encouragement via this award and being a part of my academic journey."
Pujyata, who is studying at Macquarie University in Australia, said, "This was about experience and pushing myself to build my self-esteem. It was important for me to learn from this experience. The major obstacles in my studying abroad journey were developing confidence and finding financial support. British Council has eliminated these obstacles for me by supporting me, encouraging me and showing me that all things in life can be achieved if you are to give it your best."
Dr Lava Deo Awasti, Joint Secretary at Ministry of Education, stated that the award will help students gain knowledge from universities abroad and then help them contribute to the development process of Nepal.
