A win over Erchim alone would not have ensured Three Star´s hope of making it to the final. Three Star had to wait for the outcome of last group stage match for determining its fate. Three Star had suffered a humiliating 6-0 defeat in the first match played on Monday in the three team group. Erchim and Balkan of Turkmenistan will lock horns in the last match of group A. [break]
The result left Three Star and Erchim with one point each while Balkan has three points. Three Star has already played both group stage matches while Erchim and Balkan have played a match each.
On Wednesday´s match, Three Star that not only failed to give continuity to its dominance over the Mongolian league champion but had to labor hard until the fading moments to achieve the equalizer. Three Star´s African forward Zikahi Leonce Dodoz earned the equalizer in the fading moments.
Erchim had taken an early eighth minute lead in the match through Battulga Zorigt.
In group B match, Alquds Hilal Club of Palestine stunned two-time champion Dordoi with a 2-0 win sending the latter packing home. Dordoi was defeated 1-0 by KRL Football Club of Pakistan in its first match. Dordoi is also the most successful team of the tournament to make it to the finals for record eight times since the beginning of the tournament in 2005. The tournament is contested by league champions of third tier member associations of Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
This is the second participation of Three Star in the tournament. In the first edition held on home ground, Three Star had crashed out from the semifinal.
