Three held with antique Buddha statue

KATHMANDU, Nov 7: Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu on Thursday arrested three people from Thamel for trying to smuggle an antique statue of Buddha.



Police said they believed the statue was more than 100 years old. However, they were unable to determine its exact age and had been sent to the department of archeology for further investigations.[break]



According to the police, the three men were arrested with the statue following a tip off. They were nabbed while searching for customers who could pay a handsome price for the antique.



The three have been identified as Ramraj Siwakoti, 25, of Dolakha, Nabinjung Shahi, 23, of Bajura and Dilnath Bajagain, 26, of Lalitpur. If found guilty they could face five years in jail as per the Ancient Monument Preservation Act 2013 BS.
