KATHMANDU, March 17: The world's largest statue of Lord Buddha is going to be built in Kapilvastu. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed for the construction of a 245-meter tall statue within the Kapilvastu Municipality Area.
Mohan Gautam, the Nepal representative of the International Buddhist Center, said that the statue will be built to reflect the 29 years spent by Gautam Buddha in Kapilvastu.

The MoU was signed by the head of the International Buddhist Center Choing Kwee Seng Steward, the center's Nepal representative Mohan Gautam and the mayor of Kapilvastu Municipality, Sudip Paudel.
Mayor Paudel said that he was happy that the statue of Lord Buddha would be built in ancient Kapilvastu. He said that it is a matter of pride to have the world's largest statue built in the city.
Vice chairperson of Lumbini Development Trust, Bhikshu Mettey said that the construction of the statue will add a new dimension to the development of Kapilvastu.
