Thapa family dominates squash finals Father, son to vie for men's title

KATHMANDU, Aug 9: Defending champion Hira Bahadur Thapa and his son Amrit set up a title clash in the men´s singles of the Second NSRA National Open Squash Championship on Friday.



Hira outclassed Suraj Shrestha 11-5, 11-7, 14-12 in the semifinal played at the Satdobato Squash Academy, Lalitpur on Friday. Amrit struggled past Suresh Gurung 12-10, 11-8, 7-11, 11-6 in the second semifinal. [break]



This is the second time that the father-son duo has reached the final of a national tournament. Earlier, Amrit had stunned his father 3-1 in the final of the Nationwide Squash Championship organized some 10 months ago to celebrate World Squash Day.



Amrit also reached the final of junior boys´ singles on Friday. Amrit, the defending champion, will take on Arhant Keshar Singh in the final.

Likewise, Hira´s daughter Krishna Thapa set up a title clash with Bipana Blon in the women´s singles. Blon also reached the final of junior girls´ singles along with Manjila Ale Magar.



All the final matches of the championship, organized by Nepal Squash and Rackets Association, will be played on Saturday.
