Syarpu Tourism Festival concludes

RUKUM, Oct 2: Syarpu Tourism Festival concluded on Saturday. Goods worth five million rupees were bought and sold during the festival, the organizers said. The festival that began on September 27 was organized for the first time in Rukum district.



The event featured 22 big stalls from business houses and around 100 small stalls and shops. The six-day event was visited by more than 30,000 people. Businessmen from neighboring districts like Dang, Rolpa, Jajarkot, Salyan, Baglung, Dolpa and Jumla participated in the festival. [break]



The stalls from Dang, Salyan featured electronic equipment and cosmetic products whereas the stalls from Jumla and Dolpa sold local products like carpet, yarsagumba, panch aaunle (medicinal plant), Nepali hand-made paper among other things. Similarly, traders from Baglung, Rolpa and Rukum sold rug, blanket, wool and various local products.



One of the best attractions of the festival was Dolpa apple. Apples were brought to Rukum from Dolpa using horses and mules. The apple sold for Rs 65 per kilo.



The special attraction in Syarpu Lake were the newly-introduced raft boats. Previously, there were only traditional boats in the lake.



Organizers informed myrepublica.com that locals provided lodging facility to tourists at their homes on the basis of 20 guests per house. “Local delicacies like Dhindo and Sisno were served during the event,” they said.
