KATHMANDU, March 27: A three-day ‘East Tourism Mart’ that was held in Dharan under the management of Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and Dharan Sub-metropolis for the promotion of tourism in the border areas of the country has concluded today.
Inaugurating the event, Province 1 Chief Minister Rajendra Kumar Rai stressed on the need to promote tourism in the province as this sector has potential to herald economic development in the region. Stating that Province 1 has a huge potential for tourism, Chief Minister Rai said that such marts will help to promote tourism in the border areas.

Chief Minister Rai also informed that the Province government is working in collaboration with various donors for the development of tourism infrastructures.
Also, speaking on the occasion, Mayor of Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City Tilak Rai said that Dharan could become the gateway for tourism in Province 1. He also said that the mart was first organized in Dharan in 2018 and that this is the third edition of tourism mart in the province.
According to convener Bhawesh Kumar Shrestha of East Tourism Mart, the event was organized with a goal to promote tourism in Province 1 both at home and abroad. The event was participated by Indian tradel entrepreneurs from the border areas including Siliguri and Bihar of India.
On the second day of the event, business interaction was held between tour operators, hoteliers and tourism service providers of Nepal to promote the sale of tour packages in the region by involving the tour operators of the bordering Indian cities.
