Champion Sindhu bagged Rs 25,000 and the runner up Goraknath Battalion received Rs 20,000. Irkhu Village Sports Development Committee took the third place honors defeating Lamo Sanghu Armed Police Force Border Security 25-21, 25-20, 22-25, 22-25, 15-11. Irkhu received Rs 15,000. Rookmangud Katawal, the former chief of army staff distributed prizes to the winners.
Magar wins Triathlon
KATHMANDU: Chandra Bahadur Magar won the NTA Pokhara Open Triathlon Championship on Saturday. Magar completed the triathlon (750 meters swimming, 20 km cycling and 10 km running) with a timing of 1 hour 22 minutes and 2 seconds.
Amrit Adhikari finished second clocking 1:34:05 hours while Suman Gurung was third with a timing of 1:36:10 hours. Out of the 11 participants, three did not finish the triathlon held in and around the Phewa Lake of Pokhara.
Gyanodaya, Galaxy in semis
KATHMANDU: The girls´ basketball teams of Gyanodaya Residential School and Galaxy Public School advanced into the semifinals of the 19th Eicher Gyan Carnival winning their respective matches on Saturday. Gyanodaya hammered Little Angels´ 53-9 with 22 points from Gautami Bhattachan. Likewise, Rasana Karki scored 13 points as Galaxy saw off LRI 35-18. Meanwhile, Gyanodaya, GEMS and Malpi secured their places in the quarterfinals of the boys´ basketball. In the boys´ football, Kathmandu Valley School, Gyan Shikha and Army School made it to the semifinals.
Mulmi duo wins second round matches
KATHMANDU: National champion Saroj Kumar Mulmi and Sanjay Mulmi registered wins in the second round of the First London Open Snooker Championship on Saturday. Saroj defeated Anuj Kumar Dahal 4-1 while Sanjay thrashed Nischal Pokharel 4-0 in their respective matches. Likewise, Prabin Shakya defeated Sandip Karki 4-2 and Raju Chaudhary beat Prakash Limbu 4-0. In other second round matches held at the London Snooker House in Manbhavan, Rajan Lama, Anish Maharjan, Abhishek Sunuwar, Deepak Thapa Magar, Alok Yonjan, Birendraman Shakya, Jayaram Balami and Furi Sherpa emerged victorious.
Sitapaila lifts team title
KATHMANDU: Sitapaila Taekwondo Dojang lifted the team championship title of the Manmohan Adhikari Memorial Second International Invitational Taekwondo Championship on Saturday. The club finished first with five golds, two silvers and two bronzes in the tournament held at the covered hall of the Dasharath Stadium. Bijeshwari Gyan Mandir secured the second position with four golds, one silver and three bronzes ahead of New Golds, which claimed the third position with three golds, one silver and two bronzes. Puja Karki of Syuchatar Taekwondo Dojang and Sanjay Gusain of India were adjudged the best players.
Gurungs dominate kayaking c´ship
KATHMANDU: Prakash Gurung of Kaski won the open kayak event of the National Flat Water Canoeing and Kayaking Championship on Saturday. Gurung completed the 2500 m distance in 21 minutes 47 seconds at the Phewa Lake, Pokhara to win the title. Dipesh Gurung (22.22 sec) and Bhupan Gurung (22.23 sec), both from Kaski, finished second and third, respectively. Sher Bahadur Gurung of Nepal Army won the title of the 500 m kayaking race. He covered the distance in 2 minutes 40 seconds. Likewise, Ashok Nepali of Nepal Police won gold in 2500 m kayaking race with a timing of 21.12 minutes.
