WOODSIDE (New York), Feb 8: The Girija Prasad (GP) Koirala Foundation, in coordination with the Sindhu USA Welfare Society, a public charity, provided essential food items to 42 students studying in New York on F1 visas. The assistance included daily necessities such as lentils, rice, flour, oil, and noodles. The foundation decided to support the students due to the current US government's strict immigration policies, which does not allow these students to work outside of college, and many are struggling financially to afford food. This support has offered them immediate relief, and they have expressed their gratitude, the foundation said in a statement.
The foundation’s team, led by President Somnath Ghimire, included Vice President Subarna Lama, Executive Committee members Ramchandra Adhikari, Surya Simkhada, and active volunteers Shekhar Karki, Will Tamang, Yogendra Adhikari, and Neeraj Rimal. Officials from the Sindhu USA Welfare Society, including President Pasang Norbu Sherpa, Second Vice President Lakpa Thilen Sherpa, Secretary Bhimsen Shrestha, Assistant Secretary Buddhi Bahadur Shrestha, Treasurer Sang Thilen Sherpa, Assistant Treasurer Pasang Temba Sherpa, and Executive Committee member Nima Sherpa, also participated in the distribution, reads the statement. Volunteers Duk Chiring Sherpa, Pembe Sherpa Lama, Sushmita Gurung, Nim Chiring Sherpa, Gombu Sherpa, and Nima Pasang Sherpa actively contributed to the effort.

Additionally, Hari Pun, the owner of Nepali Momo Cafe in Jackson Heights, sponsored lunch for around 50 people, offering delicious Nepali cuisine and juice, the foundation added.
The statement further said that the GP Koirala Foundation family extended heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in these sponsorships. With plans to continue supporting students over the next two months, the foundation has urged philanthropists, businesspeople, and organizations to join hands in this effort. Their core motto remains "Service is the greatest duty."
