SPORTS BRIEFS: Shotokan karate gets NSC recognition

KATHMANDU, Feb 15: Nepal Shotokan Karate-Do Association has been registered at the National Sports Council (NSC), the press and publicity department of NSC said in a statement issued on Friday. An 11-member ad-hoc committee has been formed under the chairmanship of NSC member Man Bahadur Neupane.

Pratap Singh Lama and Shankar Lal Blon are the vice-presidents while Dhirje Man Tamang is the general secretary, Rupak Tamang secretary and Govinda Shrestha is the treasurer of the committee. [break]

Shyam Krishna Shrestha, Badrilal Shrestha, Tika Narayan Shrestha, Arjun Thapa and Uttam Lama Tamang are the members of the association which has its international headquarters in Hungary.

Daffodil beats Teresa in opener

KATHMANDU
: Host Daffodil toiled hard to beat Teresa 27-26 in senior girls´ basketball during the Daffodil Cup Inter-school Football and Basketball Tournament that kicked off in the capital on Friday. Dolly Tamang scored the highest nine points for the host while Man Maya Magar was the highest scorer for Teresa with 11 points. Meanwhile, the junior boys´ football match between Daffodil and Young Hearts ended in a 1-1 draw.

Mingmar Lama put Daffodil in front during the first half of the nine-a-side football match while Sheray Budha hit back the equalizer for Young Hearts after the interval.
