KATHMANDU : National Sports Council (NSC) Employees Association filed a case against NSC´s former member secretary Jeewan Ram Shrestha at the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Tuesday. In a press statement issued on Tuesday, the association has claimed that it has filed the case asking CIAA to probe irregularities during the tenure of Shrestha. The association has accused Shrestha of involvement in financial irregularities during the Fifth National Games.
NSC commemorates Silwal´s death
KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): National Sports Council (NSC) and Nepal Amateur Athletics Association organized a memorial service for Bhupendra Silwal to mark the 13th day of his demise. Silwal was one of Nepal´s pioneer Olympians. NSC Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama, Vice President Pitambar Timsina and other notable personalities of the sports sector as well as players, coaches and sports enthusiasts observed a minute of silence in his honor. During the function, NSC Member Secretary Lama recalled his conversation with Silwal and said, “He often expressed his concerns about the bleak future of the athletes. He had a desire that none of the athletes of the new generation should suffer as his generation did.” Silwal´s nephew Krishnakaji handed over the former athlete´s coat and a set of national dress to Nepal Olympic Museum´s President Kshitiz Arun Shrestha during the occasion.
Shooting tourney next week
KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Nepal Shooting Association (NSA) is all set to organize a nationwide shooting tournament next week. The four-day tournament, which will kickoff at the Satdobato Shooting Range from Sunday, will feature air rifle and air pistol events in the men´s and women´s categories, according to NSA Vice President Mathuraram Shrestha. The shooters will vie for four golds in individual events. The top three winners in each event will be awarded Rs 10,000, Rs 7,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively.
Gyanodaya clinches title
KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Gyanodaya clinched the title of the girls´ basketball event of the 19th Eicher Gyan Carnival while Malpi International lifted the title of the boys´ basketball on Tuesday. Host Gyanodaya edged past Daffodil 59-52 in the girls´ basketball final at its home court in Khokana. In the boys´ section, Malpi defeated The Excelsior 54-49 for the title. Meanwhile, Army School won the title of the boys´ football with a 4-1 win over Kathmandu Valley School with a brace from Sansar Gurung. Likewise, Springdale lifted the title of boys volleyball defeating Deep Jyoti 26-24, 25-19, 24-26, 25-17.
Udaypur off to flying start
KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Udaypur registered double wins in the opening day of the First National U-20 Women´s Handball Championship on Tuesday. Udaypur thrashed White Field 19-2 in its first match held at the National Police Academy, Maharajgunj. In another match, Udaypur hammered Morang 21-4 to secure a place in the quarterfinals. In other matches, Dolakha beat Reliance 2-1, Dang saw off Kailali 11-3 and Kaski edged out Mahottari 9-2.
