KATHMANDU, June 19: Nepali rupee gained 51 paisa against US dollar this week as the Indian currency, with which rupee is pegged, gained value against the greenback. Price of gold, on the other hand, increased by Rs 345 per 10 grams over the week.CURRENCY
Rupee gained 51 paisa this week to close at 102.33 against US dollar on Friday. Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the central regulatory bank, had opened currency trading on Sunday with value of dollar fixed at Rs 102.84.
The local currency gained 4 paisa on Monday against US dollar to close at 102.80. Though the value of rupee remained unchanged on Tuesday, it lost 4 paisa against US dollar on Wednesday to settle at 102.84. Rupee lost another 8 paisa on Thursday to close at 102.92 against US dollar. The local unit gained 59 paisa against the greenback on Friday to close the week's trading at 102.33.
According to Reuters, Indian bonds and Indian currency rallied on Friday on media reports the central bank had proposed to set the limit for foreign investments for government debt in rupees instead of dollars, effectively allowing increased purchases from overseas.
Meanwhile, rupee lost Rs 1.71 against euro and Rs 3.47 against Pound Sterling over the week. A euro was exchanged at Rs 116.62 on Friday, while the Pound Sterling was valued Rs 162.89.
BULLION
Gold price increased by Rs 345 per 10 grams to Rs 44,840 this week. Trading opened on Sunday with price of gold fixed at Rs 44,495 per 10 grams.
Though the price remained unchanged on Monday, it increased by Rs 85 per 10 grams on Tuesday to Rs 44,580. Gold price, however, came down by Rs 85 per 10 grams to Rs 44,495. The price again increased by Rs 85 per 10 grams on Thursday to settle at Rs 44580. Gold price went up by Rs 260 per 10 grams on Friday to close the week's trading at Rs 44,840.
Meanwhile, price of silver increased by Rs 4.5 per 10 grams this week. Silver was traded at Rs 604.5 per 10 grams on Friday.
