KATHMANDU, Oct 9: Nepali rupee gained 63 paisa against US dollar this week as the Indian currency, with which rupee is pegged, gained value against the greenback. Price of gold, on the other hand, fell by Rs 85 per 10 grams over the week.CURRENCY
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the central regulatory bank, had opened currency trading on Sunday with value of US dollar fixed at Rs 105.12.
Though rupee's value remained unchanged on Monday, the local currency gained 49 paisa on Tuesday to close at 104.63 against US dollar. However, rupee shed 20 paisa to settle at 104.83 against the greenback on Wednesday. Though rupee strengthened by 38 paisa against US dollar on Thursday to settle at 104.45, it shed 4 paisa on Friday to close the week's trading at 104.49 against the dollar.
Similarly, rupee lost 75 paisa against euro and 96 paisa against Pound Sterling over the week. A euro was exchanged at Rs 118.13 on Friday, while the British Pound was valued Rs 160.29.
BULLION
Gold price came down by Rs 85 per 10 grams this week. Trading had opened on Sunday with price of gold fixed at Rs 43,125 per 10 grams.
Price of gold fell by Rs 170 per 10 grams on Monday to settle at Rs 42,955. Though gold price remained unchanged on Tuesday, it became dearer by Rs 425 per 10 grams on Wednesday to Rs 43,380. On Thursday, however, gold price came down by Rs 340 per 10 grams to close at Rs 43,040. Gold price remained unchanged on Friday to close the week's trading at Rs 43,040.
Meanwhile, price of silver went up by Rs 13 per 10 grams over the week. Silver was traded at Rs 613 per 10 grams on Friday.
