NAWALPARASI, March 13: The concerned bodies have not given attention even as people of southern part of Rajahar VDC of Nawalparasi have been victimized from annual floods in Narayani River.

About 200 families have been displaced after the river began cutting land since 2048 BS. The river has cut 90 bighas of land so far.[break]

The displaced people have been living near the Salghari Community Forest in tents and huts and complained that they were neglected by the concerned bodies.

“We did not have even travel expenses, not to talk of compensation”, said Nandakumari Mahato, who was displaced in 2051 BS.

“I lost five bighas of land and now it is difficult to live near the jungle with no property at all”, she said.

Another displaced Maniram Panjiyar is angered with the Nepal government for neglect and warns of agitation.

Another local Manu Bote accused CA Member Dr. Shashanka Koirala for not returning since he gave assurances for construction of embankment.

Rajahar VDC Secretary Bed Prasad Gaudel said the embankment will begin early, and added amount has been demanded with the Ministry of Water Resources as it is included in the 20-year plan.

Gaudel however expressed resentment towards the Chitwan national park for lack of cooperation.

The embankment is not a matter of the VDC alone, but a problem of the country and urged cooperation from all.
