Rhino preservation drawing tourists' attraction

CHITWAN, April 16: Tourists' attraction has increased at Kumroj of Sauraha, Chitwan with the spotting of rare and preserved wildlife, one-horned rhino, in east Chitwan.

Tourists are increasingly attracted to visit the area after wildlife species such as rhino, tiger, beer and leopard are being spotted in Kumroj Central Community Forest.It is learnt that tourism entrepreneurship has been the main source of income of the community forest. With the rise in the inflow of tourists, the income of community forest has exceeded five million rupees in a year, said office secretary of the community forest, Bharat Nepal.

The community forest has possessed at least five rhinos now while there was tough time keeping a single rhino in the forest.

Average around 150 domestic and foreign tourists are coming to the Kumrok forest area for elephant riding and jungle safari daily, Nepal added.

In order to tap growing tourism potential in the area, the community forest has allocated Rs 2 million for the arrangement of home stay in the village this year. RSS
