MUGU, Feb 15: As it has been snowing in Mugu for the past one week, the district's tourist attraction Rara Lake has drawn hundreds of domestic and foreign tourists of late. Playing in the snow with the place's serene beauty in the background is a major attraction for them.

Kathmandu-based tourism entrepreneurs Shashank Thapa and Ashimanahi Basnet arrived at Rara on Thursday with their clients of domestic tourists. Tourism entrepreneurs, including hotel operators and trekking companies, have been quite busy for the past few days.

Tourists visiting the place said they are thrilled for being able to play in the snow around Rara Lake. “People say a Rara tour is suitable only during certain seasons. But the place is really worthy to visit throughout the year,” said Thapa, leader of the team.

“Of course, people can visit the place during spring and monsoon when flowers bloom. But visiting Rara in the winter and playing in the snow gives a unique experience,” he added.

According to him, lots of improvements can be made to lure more tourists to Rara. For instance, he said, managing skating and other snow sports would make the visit even more enjoyable.

“Likewise, it would help the tourism industry a lot if there is a direct flight and transportation services to Rara from Pokhara, Biratnagar and Kathmandu. All of these would make Rara a major tourist destination,” Thapa added.
