Among the dead, the body of one has been found, informed police. The body has been identified as that of Sujan Limbu,15, of Malibase in Singadevi VDC, Morang district. [break]
"The Basna river, which connects Pati and Singdevi VDCs in the district, swept Sujan off his feet and his body was recovered from the river bank near Bogtani VDC," said a local.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) at Eastern Regional Police Office, Bhoj Dev Khatiwada, informed that a search for the remaining bodies is still ongoing.
"Among the remaining dead, two are from Jhapa district and one from Udayapur," said Khatiwada.
Police have identified the other deceased as Rohaman Karmakar, 2, of Saranmati VCD in Jhapa, Tul Bahadur Rai, 72, of Triyuga VDC-13 in Udayapur, and Nishan Neupane,20, of Biratnagar-6.
Rohaman, the son of Raju Karmakar, was washed away by a drainage canal near their house, Rai drowned in the Swaraswoti river and Neupane meet a similar fate while swimming in the Jamunaha river.
Meanwhile, Khatiwada informed that two more lives have reportedly been lost in the Ratuwa river at Damak. They have been identified as Shiva Rai,25, of Damak-12 and Dhirak Tajpuriya,24, of Damak-13.
As per a survey conducted by Eastern Regional Police Office, the rains have done maximum damage in Saptari district.
Around 2,050 houses have been inundated in the Saptari. Most houses in Theliya, Trikol, Badgama and Tilathi VDCs have been affected by the heavy rainfall.
According to the survey report, the flooding caused by the rains has submerged 200 houses in Morang and 771 Jhapa. In addition, 210 households have been displaced in Sunsari.
