Sukh Dev Kafle, a primary-level teacher at the school, had taken a year´s leave from 2011. Since then, he has not attended the school and the school administration has brought in a proxy teacher in his place, said Indra Man Moktan, a parent of one of the school children.
Chairman of the school´s management committee, Tanka Bahadur Moktan, and principal Ashok Kumar Shyngtan have appointed Suku Maya Shyngtan, the latter´s wife. They have been paying her salary since the last two years, the parent said.
At a press conference on Tuesday, parents of the school children also said that the school has been operating since the last five years without holding a guardians´ meeting, thereby giving impetus to irregularities. “Although the school has positions vacant for permanent teachers, the management committee has been using proxy teachers,” said Indra Man.
Parents have also lodged a complaint at the Central Regional Directorate and the District Administration Office, demanding immediate action against school administration officials.
Back in January, the DEO declared the district a proxy teacher-free zone. Educational officer Khadka Bahadur Kamal claimed that there were no proxy teachers left in the district. The DEO had earlier punished eight proxy teachers.
Likewise, Akhileshswor Prasad Yadav, another teacher at the school, took leave in 2009. Since that time, he has not returned to the school but has been pocketing his salary nonetheless.
“Parents have complained again about proxy teachers in the school. We will take action on the basis of the complaint,” said Kamal.
Parents have also complaint that the income and expenditures of the school are not transparent. Likewise, they have stated that the school has done a poor job of distributing scholarships, among other things.
