PM meets family of Gothatar shooting victim

KATHMANDU, Jan 23: Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal on Saturday visited the family of Santosh Karki, the 10-year-old schoolboy killed in shooting at Gothatar three days ago.
Prime Minister Nepal offered condolences to the victim´s family and assured them that the government would bring the guilty to justice. He also assured the family of compensation. [break]

The prime minister said the murderers have already been identified and a special police team mobilized to book them.

Referring to the involvement of Maoist cadres in the shooting incident, Nepal said he has already talked to the Maoist leadership to help arrest the guilty. He expressed hope that the Maoists would fully cooperate to bring the guilty to justice.

Santosh was killed and three others injured when an armed group opened fire at Birendra Chowk, Gothatar VDC in Kathmandu on Wednesday. The ill-fated boy was on his way home after offering worship to Goddess Saraswati.



On the occasion, locals asked the prime minister to arrest the guilty, declare the slain child a martyr, provide compensation to the victim´s family, and establish a police post at Gothatar. The prime minister said the government was positive over the demands.
